IX x XII
Cross the hermit over the hanged man
cross them to make a cross.
Then take this cross up on your back
and climb Mount Tabor.
Carry the cross and count the drops
of blood you shed on the way
to the top of Mount Tabor.
Carry the cross and keep a secret
it's tears of longing, not regret
keep a secret, I miss you so,
that all the salt of the Dead Sea
is not enough to lace these tears.
At the end of the ascent the moon will speak:
"Sacrifice is proof of love."
And the sun will laugh:
"See how the hermit is crossed over the hanged man?
Love is the cross. The rest is lost.
Carry the cross and die on it."
Dusk and dawn will be one
time will turn into a ghost
I'll kiss you on the lips, nine no more
You'll cut my noose, twelve no more
but you and I
mere men before the cross
mere men then, now gods.
